I'll never forget the look on my daughter's face near the end of second grade when we told her she was going to be held back. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen. We met with the school principal, guidance counselor, and others and asked if we could have the summer to try to catch her up and have her re-tested for entry into the third grade at that point.
