State Scholarships & Grant Programs

Arkansas LEARNS is offering 2 types of grants to students. 1) Arkansas High Impact Tutoring Pilot Program. 2) Literacy Grant Program.

HIT Pilot: provide grant funds to districts to apply for and use to hire tutors, develop instructional materials, admin expenses, cost for technology, contracts with approved tutoring providers. This pilot begins SY 2023-24. Funding amounts depends on district need and application.

Literacy Tutoring Grant: provides $500 to support K-3 graders who aren't meeting the state reading standards or at risk of reading difficulties. Instruction can be offered online or in-person in a high-dosage tutoring model from a list of state approved providers. This rolls out SY 2023-24, with full implementation no later than SY 2025-26.

The Florida Tax Credit Scholarship was created to benefit children of families with limited financial resources and enable children in Florida to achieve higher excellence in their education. The Florida legislature created this in 2001.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE FLORIDA TAX CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP?

To apply, contact an eligible scholarship funding organization directly. Parents must apply for the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship.

The Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options was created to alleviate the “waitlist” from the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship program. The scholarship has two paths: the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options (FES-EO) and the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities (FES-UA). The FES-EO path benefits students of low and middle income who can apply to receive a voucher to attend a private school of their choice. The FES-UA path enables families to personalize the education of their children by directing funds to where they are needed the most.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE FAMILY EMPOWERMENT SCHOLARSHIP FOR EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS?

Families can apply at email A.A.A. Scholarship Foundation- FL, LLC at info@aaascholarships.org or Step Up For Students at  info@stepupforstudents.org.

Please note that centers classified in the state of Florida as "PRIVATE SCHOOL" can accept students with this funding. (The center is not required to be approved as a private school to offer the FES-UA.)

The Hope Scholarship was created for students in K-12^th grade public school who were victims of a bullying incident (e.g. at school, school-related program, riding the school bus, or waiting for the school bus). Parents need to report the incident and submit the proper documentation and forms in regard to the incident. The school district must provide information to the family after reporting about the Hope Scholarship and offer to transfer the student to another public school, or can choose an approved private school.

HOW TO APPLY FOR HOPE SCHOLARSHIP?

To check if your student is eligible to apply for Hope Scholarship, parents should visit the Florida Department of Education's website.

New Worlds Reading Scholarship is for public school students in K-5^th grade who are identified with substantial reading deficiencies or scored below a level 3 on the statewide standardized ELA assessment from the prior year. This scholarship is worth $500 for tutoring services. It can be used for after-school education programs, tutoring fees, or specialized summer education programs to improve reading or literacy skills.

HOW TO APPLY FOR NEW WORLDS READING SCHOLARSHIP?

Step Up For Students is a state-approved nonprofit scholarship funding organization that helps administer four scholarships for Florida schoolchildren: the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program (FTC) for lower to middle income families, the Family Empowerment Scholarship (FES) for lower to middle income families and students with unique abilities, the Hope Scholarship for public school students who experienced bulling or violence and the Reading Scholarship Accounts for public school students in kindergarten through fifth grade who struggle with reading.

Indiana Learns is a statewide grant program that provides qualifying families with up to $1,000 to spend on math and English/language arts high-dosage tutoring and approved out-of-school academic programs for their students. The initiative’s goal is to increase access to effective, out-of-school academic support to help students recover from learning disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

HOW TO APPLY FOR INDIANA LEARNS GRANT PROGRAM?

Families can learn more about this grant and apply on INDIANALEARNS.ORG. 

Iowa passed a universal Education Savings Account (ESA) program, which gives parents money to spend on education, including private school tuition. The program will give families up to $7,598 per year. The program is still in development but we should see more details shortly.

Education Freedom Accounts allow eligible New Hampshire students to direct state-funded per-pupil education adequacy grants toward select educational programming of their choice for a variety of learning experiences.

John Peterson Scholarship aims to help provide equitable services to students with special needs. The amount is up to $27,000 per year/per student based on disability. 

Who it serves: Students who are in Kindergarten-12^th grade who already have an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) in place.  

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE JOHN PETERSON SCHOLARSHIP?

Registration for vendors is in December and you must have an OH|ID Account. To create an account, visit: OH Dept of Education OH|ID Portal.

South Carolina Education Scholarship Trust Fund Program allows families residing in the state of South Carolina who have a qualified K-12 student(s) to apply for a scholarship of $6,000 to create a customized education for their student. Parents can choose to use the funds for tutoring (Math, Reading, English, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language), independent school tuition and fees, textbooks, educational materials, educational therapies, online classes, and contract services from a public school district. Awards are limited to first 5,000 approved students for the 2024-25 school year. Total award amounts equal $6,000.

Tennessee's ESA program offers students that are zoned to attend Memphis-Shelby County Schools, Metro Nashville Public Schools, and Hamilton County Schools to apply for state and local funds to use towards education expenses such as tutoring services, tuition fees to a non-public school, textbooks, uniforms, transportation, and educational therapies.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) launched the Vetted Texas Tutor Corps (VTTC), an initiative that aims to accelerate student learning through high-impact tutoring. 

This state scholarship list was created to provide schools and districts resources to support accelerated learning through high-impact and high-quality tutoring practices to address learning loss from COVID-19, and support learning acceleration for Texas students. Schools and districts can partner with participating Huntington Learning Center locations to offer high-dosage tutoring programs.

Supplemental Special Education Services (SSES) Scholarships are $1,500 one-time online grants for eligible parents/caregivers of eligible students served by special education that have been impacted by COVID-19 school closures. Families of eligible students can use the online accounts to obtain educational materials and resources and/or services such as supplemental tutoring.

Utah Fits All Scholarship Program allows families residing in the state of Utah who have a qualified K-12 student(s) to apply for a scholarship of $8,000 to create a customized education for their student. Parents can choose to use the funds for tutoring and test prep fee, independent school tuition and fees, textbooks, educational materials, educational therapies. Awards are limited to about 5,000 approved students for the 2024-25 school year.

Virginia families are eligible for grants focused on tutoring and supplemental education services; these grants are for:

$1,500 for each qualifying student. Qualifying students include any public, private, parochial or home-school student in grades K-12 residing in Virginia and meeting the school-age requirements in §22.1-1, Code of Virginia.

$3,000 for each qualifying student whose family income is verified at 300% or less of the federal poverty level.

Hope Scholarship is the state’s education savings account program that gives parents an opportunity to build an individual learning experience that works best for their child. The scholarship allows K-12 students to receive financial assistance that can be used for tuition, fees and other expenses.
